IN THIS ISSUE

EXPERT PICKS: Paige, Ariel & Lucy tag-team on a special day

POWER HOUR: Best Odds on Round 1 at The Players!

POWER RANKINGS: Will the Cats get frisky in Chicago?

MAKE THE CASE: Is Carolina worth a shot in the ACC?

WHO CAN STAY DRY AT SAWGRASS?

PLAYERS ONLY

You can bet on Scottie Scheffler to have his best performance at TPC Sawgrass this week. He has not finished higher than T-55 in two starts. (AP Photo)

EVENT: The Players Championship (Thurs-Sun)

WHY WE’LL WATCH: Hard to still call it the “fifth major” given the lack of LIVers, including defending champ Cam Smith‍. But it’s still a buff field trying to survive on a Pete Dye risk-reward masterpiece. And who doesn’t love seeing balls go into the agua on 17?

COURSE INFO: Sawgrass has been shattering dreams since 1982. Water comes into play on 17 holes, and the wind️ is expected to blow in different directions.

THE FAVES: The Big Three are Rory McIlroy (+900), Jon Rahm (+1000) and Scottie Scheffler (+1000). McIlroy won in 2019. Rahm’s average finish is just 42.2.

BET TO CONSIDER: Tom Hoge (-140) over Kurt Kitayama (+100), 72 Hole Match bet. Kitayama has never played the event and might still be hungover – metaphorically – after winning last week. Hoge has three straight top-33 finishes.

INSIGHT: Max Homa (+2000) leads with a 6.8% bet count, but McIlory has drawn 18% of our Outright handle.

EXPERT PICKS

On International Women's Day, we offer bold selections from PointsBet ambassador Paige Spiranac, Prop Queen Ariel Epstein and college sports guru Lucy Rohden.

THE FORMER PRO

Justin Thomas Top 5 Players Championship (+450)
“He plays extremely well in hard, windy conditions. He knows how to hit every shot in the book.”
Jon Rahm Over 69.5 First Round Score (-165)
"He has the complete game to play well at Sawgrass, but the track record just isn’t there. This pick will probably bite me in the ass."

THE PROP QUEEN

Celtics’ Jaylen Brown over 2.5 3s (-105)
"He averages 3.1 3s at home against bottom-10 perimeter defenses. Portland allows the 8th highest 3-point percentage."
Suns' DeAndre Ayton over 15.5 Points (-115)
"Ayton averages 20+ points against teams that struggle in the paint. The Thunder are bottom-10 in those categories."

THE COMEDIAN

Nebraska -5.5 vs. Minnesota (-110)
"This is the last full week of Big Ten basketball. There is hope."
Washington State -13.5 vs. Cal (-110)
"This number seems excessive, but Cal is excessively bad."

B1G PREVIEW

POWER️‍♂️ RANKINGS

Chris Collins' crew can make some noise this week in Chicago.

Note: IL bettors cannot wager on Northwestern or Illinois; NJ bettors are prohibited from throwing down on Rutgers. State regulations ⚖️.

  • Purdue (+135): Once a giant who also played hoops, Zach Edey blossomed into the Big Ten POY.
  • Indiana (+500): Trayce Jackson-Davis is a mouthful to say and a beast to guard.
  • Maryland (+650): Terps are 4-10 away from home, and tourney will be played a time zone away (United Center, Chicago).
  • Michigan State (+650): Sparty hasn’t gone three seasons without a tournament title since 2009-11.
  • Northwestern (+900): The championship-starved Cats grinded out a victory at Rutgers to earn the No. 2 seed.
  • Illinois (+1100): Remember Dee Brown? Deron Williams? Luther Head? That team was cooler than this one.
  • Iowa (+1500): We’re staring at you, Fran McCaffery.
  • Michigan (+2000): Juwan Howard’s teams always have plenty of fight.
  • Rutgers (+2500): The Scarlet Knights would be among the nation’s best if shooting (31.9% from 3) was not a part of basketball.
  • Penn State (+2500): The Nittany Lions won five of their last six – and the loss was to Rutgers.
  • Wisconsin (+5000): The Badgers will be a tough out if they can limit their five-minute scoring droughts.
  • Ohio State (+5000): Advanced metrics like the Buckeyes. Humans on the other hand …
  • Nebraska (+10000): Fred Hoiberg returns to the United Center.
  • Minnesota (+20000): These Gophers also need P.J. Fleck.
WHO WE LIKE TONIGHT

IF I HAD $100 BET CREDITS …

Georgetown's Patrick Ewing had more fun as a player. (AP Photo)

Here’s what we dig from tonight’s college hoops slate:

[$45] Villanova -11 vs. Georgetown: The Hoyas lost their last two games by a combined 60 points, while the post-Jay Wright Wildcats hit their stride with six wins over their final eight.

[$30] Ohio State-Wisconsin Under 130: The Badgers allowed fewer than 63 points in eight of the last 11 non-OT contests and rate 141st in KenPom adjusted offensive efficiency.

[$25] Cal-Washington Under 136.5: These are two of the slowest, lamest offenses you’ll ever (not) want to watch.
