It’s impossible to top last year’s NBA Draft betting hoopla surrounding Paolo Banchero and the No. 1 pick. But this time around, the No. 2 pick market is giving it a go.
Scoot Henderson opened as -160 chalk to go after Wemby back on May 17, with Brandon Miller next at +115. Miller became the favorite for the first time on May 23 when he was moved to -140 while Henderson swung to +100.
Over the past week, though, there’s essentially been a tug of war between the two sides. Then ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski flipped the market upside down late last night after he said on SportsCenter that Miller had further solidified his standing as the Hornets’ selection at No. 2.
PointsBet trader Wyatt Satre has been manning the controls️ for the NBA Draft markets, and provided context for the drastic change.
Satre: “The recent movement wasn’t solely based on the Woj video, but he definitely carries more pull versus other NBA reporters which is why the market didn’t react until after his statement. Before there was some thought that Charlotte would trade its pick, which is a reason why Scoot was the favorite. It did take some time even after the Woj video for Miller’s price to move, but we had him at +100 before Woj as a couple sharp clients backed Miller after [ESPN NBA Draft analyst Jonathan] Givony’s appearance on ‘Daily Wager.'”
