MARKET MOVERS ๐Ÿ“ˆ

November 28, 2023

Most NBA awards markets havenโ€™t had huge shake-ups at the top to start the season. The one exception is Sixth Man of the Year, where a massive preseason longshot now finds himself ahead of the pack.

Austin Reaves opened the season at +25000 for the award and he remained at that price until Nov. 12. He was adjusted to +1600 the next day ๐Ÿ˜ฎย and has seen his odds continue to drop ever since. Reaves swung from +800 to +300 on Nov. 26, where he currently resides as the Sixth Man of the Year favorite.

We talked with NBA trader Evan Gould for his thoughts on this wild odds shift.

ASK THE TRADER: Sixth Man of the Year is the toughest NBA awards market for bookmakers because there’s uncertainty ๐Ÿค” regarding who will actually qualify by playing enough games off the bench. Reaves was a longshot for the award to start the season since he was expected to be cemented as a starter for the Lakers. Now that he’s coming off the bench and playing well in that role, his chances of winning the award have increased dramatically. We’ve seen this type of volatility for this awards market in the past as well, it’s nothing new.
