MARKET MOVERS 📈

October 6, 2023

A non-quarterback hasn’t won NFL MVP in over a decade 😮. Will we see a legitimate contender this campaign?

There are currently 14 players with MVP odds of +5000 or lower. Thirteen of them are quarterbacks, while the “outsider” is Christian McCaffrey. And McCaffrey isn’t just a fringe guy at +5000, he’s in the thick of it at +2000.

McCaffrey started off the season as a +6500 longshot for the award. Despite rushing for 100+ yards and scoring a TD in each of the 49ers’ two wins to begin this campaign, his odds went up to +8000 after Week 2. Why? The original focus was on the quarterback, with Brock Purdy seeing his odds swing from +4000 to +2000.

But now the attention is on San Francisco’s do-it-all running back, especially after he found the end zone four times in a victory over the Cardinals last weekend. Only seven players have lower MVP odds than McCaffrey, including Purdy at +1600. McCaffrey is also the Offensive Player of the Year favorite at +150, followed by Justin Jefferson at +350.

With the 49ers playing the Cowboys 🤠 in a massive primetime game, McCaffrey has a golden opportunity to boost his MVP case on Sunday night.
