Back To Home

July 26, 2023

Summer and schoolusually don’t mix too well, but in this instance, it’s an ideal time to take a look at the college football landscape.

We continue Big 12 week, and former NFL QB Ryan Leaf and senior editor Max Meyer share their favorite win totals in the conference to go under.

LEAF: Texas Under 9.5 Wins (+110)

Texas ain’t back ❌ until the Longhorns actually show us something. The QB competition controversy between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning will ultimately splinter this team down the stretch.

MEYER: Baylor Under 7.5 Wins (-190)

Last year’s starting quarterback Blake Shapen was already given the same title for this season, but I’m not completely sold on him. It was the tale of two halves this past regular season for Shapen, as he compiled an 11:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio in the first six games and a lousy 5:7 mark in the back half. Baylor plays Utah and Texas in September, and there could be a QB switch if Shapen’s struggles continue.

Baylor’s defense fell off after a strong 2021 campaign, and HC Dave Aranda brought back Matt Powledge to be DC after Powledge spent a year away at Oregon. Aranda deserves the benefit of the doubt to fix the defense, but there aren’t many impact guys on that side of the ball. It won’t help this group that Baylor faces several excellent offenses on its Big 12 schedule.
